The Cocktail Book a Sideboard Manual for Gentlemen (1901, p.21)

1. Fill a mixing glass with ice and add the ingredients.
2. Mix and strain into a cocktail glass.

Ice: Ice

This is a good example of a sparse named aromatic that survives in a private-use cocktail book with very little explanatory padding.

Its identity depends almost entirely on the seasoning agent and base spirit, not on garnish or dilution style.
