Cooling Cups and Dainty Drinks by William Terrington (1869, p.185) — Terrington 1869

1 bottleEdinburgh ale base
1 sliceCucumber garnish
2 bottlesginger beer other
1 pintice — shaven iceother
1 gillginger syrup — syrup from preserved gingersweetener
  1. Mix together the Edinburgh ale, ginger beer, ginger syrup, cucumber, and shaven ice.
  2. Stir well and pour into thin glasses.

Garnish: Slice of cucumber.

Ice: Shaven ice

This is a worthwhile named-by-parenthesis ale-cup witness because it is much more composed than the one-line pub blends nearby.

The structure is closer to a cooled beer cup than to a simple shandy-style blend.
