  1. Put the mint, sugar, brandy, and orange juice into a soda-water glass and let stand ten minutes.
  2. Fill the glass with shaven ice, draw out and rearrange the mint stems upward, and lay the thin peel of orange on top.
  3. Pour on the rum and crushed white sugar-candy and drink through straws.

Garnish: Rearranged mint bouquet and thin orange peel.

Terrington quotes Captain Marryatt on juleps and then gives this more detailed alternate build as a working form.

This is a bouquet-style julep where visual arrangement and layered topping matter as much as the liquid formula.
