| 1 whole lemon | lemon juice — jugo de un limon | acid |
| 3 pieces | ice — hielo | base |
| 1 cup | rum — ron | base |
| seltzer — agua de seltz | dilution | |
| 1 tablespoon | sugar — azucar en polvo | sweetener |
- Shake very well with ice, pour into a large glass, top with seltzer, and serve.
Ice: 3 or 4 pieces of ice
This matters because it preserves a late Madrid rum-led Collins branch rather than treating Collins as a gin-only survivor.
