Famous New Orleans Drinks and How to Mix 'Em by Stanley Clisby Arthur (1938, p.54)
| 1 lemon | lemon juice — Lemon juice | acid |
| 0.5 lime | lime juice — Lime juice | acid |
| 1 jigger | dry gin — Dry gin | base |
| 1 jigger | Pineapple juice — Unsweetened pineapple juice | base |
| 1 whole | egg white — Egg white | other |
| 2 tsp | sugar — Sugar | sweetener |
- Mix sugar with gin and pineapple juice until dissolved.
- Add lemon and lime juices.
- Put into a shaker with plenty of ice lumps, add the egg white, shake vigorously, and serve in clear crystal glasses.
Arthur says the original came back from Mexico under the name Franco before he improved it with gin.
