| 3 large lemon | lemon juice | acid |
| 2 lemon | lemon peel — rind of lemons | base |
| 1 quart | water — boiling water | dilution |
| 0.5 pound | sugar — loaf sugar | sweetener |
- Rub some of the sugar on the lemons to absorb the oil, combine with the rest of the sugar and juice, pour over boiling water, dissolve, strain, and cool.
