Cocktail Boothby's American Bar-Tender by Wm. T. Boothby (1891, p.23)

1 lemonlemon juice — juice of one lemonacid
1 jiggergenever — Holland ginbase
ginger ale — Used to fill after straining.dilution
1 dessertspoonsugar sweetener
  1. Shake the sugar, lemon juice, gin, and ice.
  2. Strain into a thin glass and fill with ginger ale.

This is a helpful transition point from plain carbonated sour logic into the branded-mixer long-drink world.

Only the finishing mixer changes, but that change materially shifts the drink's service identity.
