Mixed Drinks by Herbert W. Green (1895, p.25)

0.5 lemonlemon — half lemonbase
2 dashorange bitters bitter
water — Used to fill.dilution
1 jiggersherry modifier
1 small bar-spoonfulRaspberry syrup sweetener
1 large spoonfulsugar sweetener
  1. Muddle the lemon and sugar in a large mixing glass.
  2. Add fine ice, raspberry syrup, orange bitters, sherry, and water, shake well, strain into a thin glass, add fruit, and serve.

Garnish: Fruit.

Ice: Fine ice

This is a useful long-drink checkpoint because it shows sherry and bitters moving into the lemonade field rather than staying confined to compact aperitifs.

The muddled lemon base matters here; this is not just a topped-up sherry sour.
