Mixed Drinks by Herbert W. Green (1895, p.67)

1 wine-glassclaret base
Soda water — ordinary soda waterdilution
  1. Put ice in a thin lemonade glass and add the claret.
  2. Fill with ordinary soda water and serve.

Ice: Two or three lumps

This is a useful stripped wine-long-drink checkpoint because it keeps claret-and-soda service visible outside the more elaborate cup and punch families.

The identity lies in simple direct build rather than mixed-bowl service.
